1. Place both AirPods in the charging case and charge for at least 1 hour.
2. Open the charging case lid and ensure the amber light is flashing.
3. Hold the setup button for 15 seconds until the light flashes white. If it stays amber, charge for an additional 30 minutes.
4. With the case open, hold it next to your unlocked phone and follow the on-screen instructions to pair.

The instructions for pairing eventually worked and I was able to start using this as a pair with my other one. No problems so far!
This bud has a tiny scratch on the surface which doesn't matter but other than that, this replacement ear bud was very clean and like new.
