How We Test & Grade Every Replacement Part

A complete overview of our sourcing, inspection, testing, and grading standards — from intake to shipment.

When you purchase a replacement earbud or charging case online, there's a reasonable question to ask: how do I know it's going to work?

Most marketplace sellers don't test their inventory. They acquire a part, photograph it, list it, and ship it — with no verification of function, authenticity, or battery health. If something is wrong, the buyer absorbs the cost.

We operate differently. Every unit that enters our facility goes through a standardized intake, testing, and grading protocol before it is listed for sale. This page documents exactly what that process entails.


Sourcing

Authorized US Retail Channels Only

Every product in our inventory is a genuine OEM part from the original manufacturer — Apple, Samsung, Bose, Beats, Sony, Google, or Jabra. We do not carry aftermarket, third-party, or refurbished-by-third-party components.

All inventory is sourced from open-box customer returns at authorized US retailers:

These are typically complete sets returned by customers who changed their mind, received a duplicate, or purchased the wrong model. In many cases, the product was opened but never used — or used only once before being returned within the retailer's return window.

We disassemble these sets into individual components (left earbud, right earbud, charging case) so customers can purchase only the specific part they need — rather than paying full retail for an entirely new set.

Why open-box from authorized retailers?

This sourcing model gives us two things simultaneously: guaranteed authenticity (every part has a retail paper trail to a verified US dealer) and significantly lower unit cost than new — savings we pass through to the customer.


5-Point Testing Protocol

Applied to Every Unit — No Exceptions

Every earbud and charging case that enters our facility goes through the same five-point inspection. Condition on arrival is irrelevant — even a sealed, unopened unit receives the full protocol.

Authenticity Verification

Model number, serial number, and physical characteristics are verified against genuine manufacturer specifications. Weight, mesh pattern, hinge mechanism, printing quality, and component fit are all checked. Units that fail authenticity screening are rejected and not listed.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Each earbud is paired with a test device to verify stable Bluetooth connection. We test initial pairing, re-pairing after reset, auto-connect behavior, and operational range. Units that exhibit connection drops, pairing failures, or intermittent signal are not listed.

Audio Quality

Standardized test audio is played through each earbud to verify sound clarity, left/right channel balance, absence of static or distortion, and proper ANC/transparency mode function (where applicable). Microphone quality is also tested for call performance.

Charging & Battery

Earbuds are seated in a compatible case to verify proper charging contact alignment, LED indicator behavior, and charge retention. Cases are tested via both wired and wireless charging where supported. Units with degraded batteries or inconsistent charging behavior are removed from inventory.

Physical Inspection & Grade Assignment

Each unit undergoes a visual inspection for scratches, scuffs, discoloration, hinge wear, and ear tip condition. Based on this inspection, the unit is assigned one of four cosmetic grades. The assigned grade is listed on the product page alongside every listing.

Rejection Policy

Any unit that fails any of the five tests above is removed from inventory. We do not sell "for parts," "as-is," or untested units under any circumstances. A part is either fully functional and graded — or it is not listed.


Cosmetic Grading Standards

Grade Reflects Appearance Only — All Grades Are Fully Functional

Once a part passes all five functional tests, it is assigned a cosmetic grade based solely on its physical condition. Every grade carries the same warranty and the same performance guarantee.

LIKE NEW

Cosmetic condition: No visible scratches, scuffs, or signs of use. Indistinguishable from a factory-new unit.

Typical origin: Customer opened the packaging, tried the product briefly (or not at all), and returned it within the retailer's return window. May still have factory protective film intact.

EXCELLENT

Cosmetic condition: Minimal signs of handling. May have a faint hairline mark on the case visible only under close inspection. Functionally identical to Like New.

Typical origin: Used for a short period (days to two weeks) before being returned. Handled carefully.

GOOD

Cosmetic condition: Light scratches or minor scuffs consistent with normal everyday use. Visible but do not affect function in any way.

Typical origin: Used regularly for several weeks before being returned. Shows standard wear patterns.

FAIR

Cosmetic condition: Noticeable scratches, scuffs, or signs of extended use. May show minor discoloration. Still 100% functional — carries the same performance guarantee as every other grade.

Typical origin: Used over an extended period before being returned or traded in. The most affordable option for customers who prioritize function over aesthetics.
