1. Place both AirPods in the charging case and charge for 1 hour.
2. Open the lid – light should flash amber.
3. Hold the setup button 15–30 seconds until white light flashes.
4. Hold the open case near your unlocked iPhone and select “Connect.”

I purchased a replacement right earbud gen 2 and tried to pair the replacement to my left earbud, the replacement was registering as a gen 1 even though the make and model was that of a gen 2. I was going to contact support to get an “actual gen 2 earbud” but figured I’d try troubleshooting one more time. The fix was that I needed to hold down the pairing button on the back of the case with both earbuds in the case while having the left one paired and the right unpaired; after I held down the button both earbuds paired to my phone simultaneously. The replacement connected to Bluetooth and my other AirPod and sounded great but not in Find My despite trying several times. Their customer service is great but I couldn’t sort it out. Then….. my wife found the lost pod so I’m returning it. Very good company to do business with!!
